Three contemporary lakeside homes designed around shaded courtyards, balancing privacy and natural cooling.
The project involves three new homes arranged to maximise views of the lake while maintaining privacy from the street. The design creates a sequence of courtyards that define outdoor spaces and provide shelter from the elements.
The Challenge
The houses needed to stay naturally cool in Bangkok’s hot climate, while making the most of their lakeside setting.
The houses needed to stay naturally cool in Bangkok’s hot climate, while making the most of their lakeside setting.
- Optimised lake views – Taller structures are positioned further from the water to allow for uninterrupted views from all levels.
- Passive cooling strategies – Courtyards provide cross-ventilation, exposed brick walls enhance thermal mass, and a ventilated double roof reduces heat gain.
- Flexible living spaces – Ground and first-floor areas focus on communal and private living, while kitchens and utilities are positioned toward the street-facing side.
Why This Project Stands Out
A climate-conscious design that blends contemporary architecture with traditional passive cooling techniques.
