CIDER HOUSE, COTSWOLDS
CIDER HOUSE, COTSWOLDS
A new walled garden and studio, designed to integrate with the landscape of extended listed Oxfordshire home.
The Brief
This project involved transforming a former orchard into a private landscaped garden with a pool and a flexible-use studio. Key aspects included:
- Creating a walled garden to provide privacy and shelter.
- Designing a new studio space for fitness, entertaining and guest accommodation.
- Integrating sustainable infrastructure to support the main house.
The Challenge
The site’s historic setting required a design that blended contemporary use with traditional materials. The studio needed to complement the listed house while providing a distinct and functional space.
The Outcome
- Studio embedded in the garden walls – Built using local Ironstone, the structure feels like an extension of the landscape.
- Flexible living space – The studio can be used for exercise, social events, or as an extra bedroom.
- Sustainable design – Solar power and rainwater harvesting provide eco-friendly solutions for the main house.
Why This Project Stands Out
This design respects the historic surroundings and landscape while introducing a peaceful, modern retreat.
